Default when do you NOT get XP/drops from a fight ?

I've been playing this game for a while and I still have a few noob questions ;-)

1- In order to get XP you have to be fighting (attacking) true or not ?
I heard sometime casters don't get XP, what are the circumstances which make this happen ?

2- Same question for getting drops.

Thanks for any help received.

In order to get xp and drops, the players should be relatively near the fight. Casters always get xp and drops unless they're too far away for the fight. but usualy therey're near (radar distance).

theres more.

if you kill foe's with enviormental objects (catapults in missions) or anything, the foe's do not drop loot or give xp.

if an npc ally from a mission/quest (prince ruik) does more then 50% damage on a single foe, that foe does not give xp, BUT drops loot.

I think the original comment I got refered to Orders necro's and bonders not getting XP even if they were close to the fight because they were attacking nor targetting allies with their spells.

You have to be attacking the foe (and have done some damage),
support your party (e.g. healing, buffs, etc),
and/or curse the foe (slowing, weakness, blind, etc).
Then, if the foe dies, you get exp and probably drops (depends on who it gets assigned to).
With a few exeptions here and there (like the environment effects such as a catapult).

Also, if you're six or more levels above the enemy you don't get any XP either.

Things are diffirent in pre-searing Ascalon.

Here you must attack / use a spell on the monsters to get xp from them.

Not true at all..

Have you heard of powerlevelling? You just have to be relatively near the fight and you will get both XP and drops..

Thank you for posting the correct info, i was gonna do it myself but you already did , i believe the range you have to be in can even be 2 radars.

Drops just drop for whoever is in the general area (quite a long range), dead or alive, fighting or not.

XP gain is weird - I notice it most when doing 3 man FoW - sometimes the tank does and sometimes doesn't gain exp (he doesn't attack), the smiter nearly always gets it (He is dealing vast amounts of damage but not actually wanding), while the ranger sometimes gets XP from every kill in the mob, sometimes only the target he was shooting.

Well, playing a bonder in FoW I sometimes stay as much as two aggro circles away from the fight, but still get the XP and drops.

Also, while running through Echovald Forest, I got XP from the Kurzick guards killing Mantids, and I hadn't attacked at all, I just ran past. No drops from that though.

Also, if monsters fight between themselves (Troll vs Avicara, Outcasts vs Naga, Smites vs Coldfires etc) you will not get any drops unless you contribute more than 50% of the damage against any particular monster.

You get 0 XP from rezed monsters as well. Meaning you don't get any XP if you kill a monster that you've already killed once...or twice, etc. and has been resurrected by one of it's team mates.
